Marksman Lloyd is about to make certain 2017 is his biggest year yet. After a huge 2016 winning the WAM award for best hip-hop song with ‘Pause’, the single 'Seven Laps' was launched to a sell-out crowd, amassing further triple j and national radio support while surpassing 100,000 Spotify streams. Marksman followed this by supporting Drapht on his Australia wide album tour in October along with fellow rising star Dylan Joel.
Cue Marksman's latest offering 'Didn't Know'. Produced by regular collaborator Jia Lih and featuring one of Perth's most exciting new vocalists KAYO, ‘Didn't Know’ is an addictive jam that’s arrived just in time for summer. Marksman's unique flow is on display here and the progression in melody from the rapidly rising emcee is obvious. Mixed by Charlie Young (Macklemore, The Naked and Famous) and mastered by partner in crime Rob Shaker, ‘Didn't Know’ is another taste from Marksman’s forthcoming EP ‘Portals’ (due out February 17, 2017).
Boasting a resume that now includes shows in the U.S and Singapore, Marksman has shared the stage with international artists Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Brother Ali, Action Bronson, P-Money and Blu & Exile. In addition to Drapht, Marksman has also supported Oz acts including Illy, Seth Sentry, Horrorshow, L-FRESH the LION and joined Peking Duk on stage at Stereosonic in front of 15,000 people.
2014's 'Rewrite the Ending' EP cycle included two national tours and yielded three radio singles with ‘Olympus’, ‘You Won’t Be the One’ and the slamming title track, but if 2016’s build is anything to go by, 2017 will see Marksman hitting even more stages while claiming the airwaves across the country.
